{"id":217,"date":"2016-03-24T18:42:42","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T22:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sewerlid.com\/?p=217"},"modified":"2016-03-24T19:12:49","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T23:12:49","slug":"two-poems-by-trevor-abes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sewerlid.com\/index.php\/2016\/03\/24\/two-poems-by-trevor-abes\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Poems by Trevor Abes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Evenings<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I muse over mason jars and hermetic seals on the subway,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the efficacy of drier sheets and cologne on tissue paper<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dabbed along the gap between bathroom door and frame;<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I worry about wet towels and thresholds, the reliability of<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">air vents and the resilience of toilet seats if it\u2019s cold outside.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In chorus, I count ashes appearing, slouched over a laptop<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that mirrors my thirst with cotton swabs dipped in alcohol<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and run between the keys to make them smell of hospitals.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Reversomatic hums and masks the striker wheel;<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I count to ten and exhale, thinking<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">there are more important things in life than living a long time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>The New Language<\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does texting make you feel like you taped a cardboard cutout of yourself to yourself and called it a lifestyle choice?
